Garden Glimpses

"All of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today."
Dale Carnegie

Though we enjoyed warmer temperatures here on the County Line today, there are certainly no roses blooming outside our windows. But the Wichita Garden Show is in full bloom for another year.

One of my favorite 4-H field trips was taking photographers to the Wichita Garden Show. After the show closes for the night, 4-Hers and leaders get to wander the displays and shoot to their heart's content.

The 4-Hers' night at the Garden Show always falls the night before our Stafford County 4-H Club Days. Since 4-Hers don't begin their photography excursion until 9 PM or so, it makes for a late night. But even if we were a bit bleary-eyed during the club's model meeting the next day, it was always worth the effort.

Most years, Brent was using my camera. But the year he left for college, I took a small group of 4-Hers to the Garden Show. And in between trying to figure out shots for them, I took just a few photos myself.

So, just because it gives us a glimpse of spring beauty yet to come, here are some photos from that excursion.

"Looking for and enjoying beauty is a way to nourish the soul. The universe is in the habit of making beauty. There are flowers and songs, snowflakes and smiles, acts of great courage, laughter between friends, a job well done, the smell of fresh-baked bread. Beauty is everywhere."
Matthew Fox

Here's hoping you find beauty this weekend - wherever it takes you.
