Fresh Start

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! II Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

A Time to Think

Since the new year will not be any newer than you are,
make up your mind that you are going to be new.
–Norman Vincent Peale, pastor and author
As the snow fell, I walked to the road and peered southward, squinting my eyes against the bracing cold and trying to see beyond the snow-obscured horizon.

The new year can be a beautiful blank canvas, like that blanket of white snow that stretched as far as I could see.
I can map out a plan for my days - and I often do - with my first-born attention to detail and to-do lists.
But, despite my best intentions, the days can become as twisted and meandering as the branches of the old cottonwood tree that sits just south of our driveway.

A Time to Act

Remember that detours are opportunities to experience new things.

A Time to Pray

God, thank You for all of the blessings in my life and the vision with which to recognize them.
The quotes in blue were taken from a Guideposts devotional I get in my email inbox every day. They arrived just in time for the new year.
Happy New Year as we get in the swing of 2015! (Now, if I can just remember to write it on my checks!)

  1. Kim,
I like the shots of your house. The one with the mailbox in foreground has a neat perspective.

You always have just the right thing to say or share. I love the way your faith shines through on your blog and your thoughts are right from the heart.

I hope you have a good week, despite the cold and snow. Keep warm, my friend!

    1. Thanks, Robyn! We are going to try and move some cattle after lunch. I get the pickup job today instead of riding the 4-wheeler. That's OK on this cold, cold day!

  2. The quote about detours is so true. Terry & I have decided that wrong turns or detours are just unplanned adventures. We've had some pretty grand adventures started that way. Seeing the snow brings back childhood memories of snowy days. While I can appreciate the beauty & moisture from the snow, I certainly don't miss the biting cold & messiness associated with snow. Stay warm & take a detour.

    1. Unfortunately, my detour yesterday was not feeling well. That wasn't in the plan, but so it goes. We spent the weekend in Topeka celebrating Kinley's birthday. It seems we get sick after every visit. As I told someone else, it's a good thing they are so darn cute!

  3. Amazing photos! And especially when we are having a run off very hot days here in Australia. Love your snow! Makes me feel so much cooler just looking at it.

    1. It's funny, Lynda, because I just commented on your blog about how nice your beautiful, snow-free day looked. The grass is always greener ...
