Just in Time

The first fall of snow is not only an event,
 it is a magical event.
You go to bed in one kind of world
and wake up in another quite different.
If this is not enchantment,
then where is it to be found?

The baler finally stayed together long enough for Randy to finish baling sudan on Saturday. It was just in time. When we got up Sunday morning, there was 2 inches of snow on the ground.

Randy baled 230 sudan bales from 120 acres of sudan.
We have another 35 acres of sudan that we are grazing. Some mama cows are dining on stalks right now.
The hay bales provided a foreground for another spectacular sunset sky last evening. The guys soon will get them moved to the end of the field so we can feed them this winter.

This year, we baled a total of 1,350 bales of alfalfa and sudan, though 350 of those were for a neighbor.

I guess I was lazy yesterday. I didn't get out and about to take many photos. I'm still trying to get acclimated to this cold snap!

  1. Gorgeous sunset.....snow does make for some pretty pictures.
I think I am getting acclimated to the cold. Now they say it's going to warm up! Lol!
Cameron is out hauling hay again this morning.....we have about 900 big bales to get home....ugh....

  2. The prettiest part of the sky was south of where the sun actually set (and that's where the photo was aimed). I always like seeing a 360-degree view of the sky at sunrise and sunset - different from every angle. We are still supposed to be cold for a few more days. Jake got started moving bales this morning and a belt on the tractor broke. Par for the course! He's headed to get a new one.

  3. Wow!! Beautiful photo of the bales, snow & sunset. I have been so looking forward to your winter and seeing your photos of snow - it is not something that happens in my world!

  4. Cold (10*) without wind is tolerable. I even walked outside Thursday and Friday. Saturday and Sunday 12* with 25-30 mph wind. Early this afternoon I saw 15* and another windy day.

After chores I don't like to go back outside either. I have to check for eggs more often so they don't freeze on me.

J's 3 Uncles are here hunting. They have been troopers in the cold, but did play a lot of cards Sunday afternoon.

    Keep Warm :)
